Cinco De Mayo and Community
When we work together
Question: Do you know what it takes to run a small business, especially a restaurant?
I am not a stranger to the service industry. But it has been a while since we been on the front line of a restaurant business and foodservice. This past Cinco De Mayo, we partnered with some local companies to help promote this festive day, amidst the COVID-19 virus.
During these challenging times, restaurants have been struggling. Having to pivot the way they do businesses and transforming themselves from a sit-down establishment to a curbside pick-up and delivery. So what we did is sit down, figure out new ways to help, new ways to build support from the community. The first step was to bring others in to help. We connected with some business owners to collaborate with ideas and ways to help each other.
The event came together with the help of the following. Businesses:
[Las brasas](http://www.lasbrasastacos.com), [TBS (The Burger Saloon)](https://www.theburgersaloon.com/), [SoRD Board Shop](https://www.sordboards.com/), [DapIt](https://www.dapitapp.com), [C/S Tattoo](https://www.facebook.com/consafostattoos/), and DJ OJ
It was a fantastic event where people could pick up trays of 12/24 tacos provided by Las Brasas. Pair that with some refreshing Margaritas from The Burger Saloon. Top that with some music and prizes, and you have yourself a recipe for success.
We wanted to make sure the event ran smoothly and effortlessly. As owners of MyCali Designs, we manage and create websites. What we needed to do is build a pre-ordering system for Las Brasas Restaurant. It had to be simple, fast, and manageable. We made a simple form that gave users a way to pick 12 or 24 pack taco trays, add margaritas and checkout. We then have to figure out a way of taking payment. Rudy's thought was, let's use DapIt. They have been one of our early adopters of the DapIt App. We were so grateful to be a part of this fantastic event. And it was so organic to include DapIt as the payment platform. After customers filled out the pre-order form, customers then purchased the full amount on DapIt and spent. It was fast, easy, and secure.
The whole day started at 11 am. It was a constant flow of customers. Everyone was so amazing in helping out and taking care of the orders and customers. Between 4:30 pm and 5:30, things got a bit crazy. The cars seem to be endless, and the walk-ups were pilling up. Managing customers and orders started to be a challenge. We all somehow came together and came out triumphant. I forgot to mention some of the cars were classic old-school cars.
All in all, the event was a huge success! Supporting local businesses and bringing the community together has always been the goal of DapIt. We learned a lot on this day. It is essential to understand others and how they run their businesses. It is also necessary to understand the inner workings of a team and how they work together. A crucial step for the improvement of an app and updates for the near future.
